The footbridge for the N5 development area in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen is 16.3 m long and 2.8 m wide, designed for an imposed load of 5 kN/m².
It carries no welds at all. The entire structure is assembled with bolted connections and the profiles are powder coated, which matters for two reasons: there is no heat-affected zone to reduce the strength of the alloy at the joints, and the bridge can be dismantled and relocated rather than cut up. Where a welded span has to be declared under an execution class that covers welding, a bolted one shifts the control effort to the fasteners.
Powder coating here is a finish rather than corrosion protection — aluminium does not rust. What the detailing has to avoid is direct contact with dissimilar metals at the bolted joints, which is a question of galvanic corrosion.
The bridge is CE marked under EN 1090-3, certificate 2268-CPR-434.
